Industrial PhD-student in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH)
NYFORS is looking for an industrial PhD-student in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, KTH). The position includes R&D experiments in material processing, laser science for high-tech products, software development as well as participation in quantum optics experiments with the fabricated devices.
ABOUT THE POSITION
You will work in a team of engineers and physicists dedicated to developing high-tech fiber processing equipment. As a PhD-student in the team, your work will contribute to the evolution of NYFORS’ current product portfolio, and in particular develop completely new products for the field of quantum technologies. Research in this area will be carried out in collaboration with KTH addressing the challenge of developing efficient and robust interfaces between optical fibers and waveguide chips. Your thesis work will be connected to the development work in our optics laboratories and the labs at KTH. You will have the opportunity to conduct experiments yourself and with the help of our mechanical designers create the next generation innovative fiber processing tools and test quantum nanophotonic devices in the labs at KTH. Our lab and machines are programmed in C++, C#, Matlab, and Labview. It will be advantageous if you are comfortable in one of these languages. In this project your main task will be to design and realize low-loss fiber connections to nonlinear waveguides. You will also perform experiments with these systems.
NYFORS can offer you a diverse and stimulating area of work, for any applicant that is looking to develop their skills broadly. Additionally, as a KTH PhD student you’ll participate to a broad range of training and networking activities at national and international level, across industry and academia in Sweden.
YOUR BACKGROUND
As an ideal candidate, you have a MSc-degree in Physics or Engineering with knowledge in one or more of the fields: optics, photonics, material science, quantum physics. We expect that you are fluent in English and enjoy communicating and working with other people.
The project involves pursuing postgraduate education towards a doctoral degree at KTH (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), hence the applicants must have basic eligibility for enrollment into postgraduate studies, in accordance with either of the following:
- Passed a degree at advanced level
- Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
- Acquired, in some other way within or outside the country, substantially equivalent knowledge
- Requirements for English equivalent to English B/6
FACTS
Full time role. Permanent employment with six months probationary.
The position is based in our main office in Skrubba, Stockholm, Sweden.
Part of the time will be spent at KTH to pursue doctoral training activities and experiments in research laboratories.
APPLICATION
If you are interested in this exciting opportunity, please submit your application as soon as possible. We will conduct interviews on an ongoing basis, so please apply as soon as you can. Your application should include your CV and a personal letter where you tell us more about who you are and how you see that you could contribute to this role and to NYFORS as a company.
